Sorry Google+ Even A Really Cute Muppets Commercial Won’t Convert Users

I’m a big fan of the Muppets. Always have been, probably always will be. So when a commercial featuring Beaker started playing during the recent Broncos vs. Bills game, it grabbed my attention immediately. As Beaker started singing Queen and David Bowie’s hit “Under Pressure”, I noticed that Beaker was framed in the familiar “Hangout” interface of Google+. Interest…waning….

Google+ hasn’t been able to keep the attention of the public after their fanfare launch in July 2011, so I’m not sure adding cute, cuddly Muppets to their list of endorsers is going to change much. Instead, Google should be focusing on how to provide something different and interesting, instead of being just another social media “me-too” that only offers the exact same functionality of Twitter, Facebook, and Skype.

Until then, I’m still not interested in spending a lot of time on Google+. It just doesn’t offer me anything valuable. Until then, at least we can enjoy the Muppets singing a great tune!
